“Midwestern” is an original project by Tomasz Grzybowski, expressing his fascination with the work of Pat Metheny – a native of the American Midwest, and one of the most outstanding contemporary jazz guitarists and composers.
The recital consists of original solo guitar arrangements of selected Metheny compositions, including “James,” “Letter from Home,” and “Last Train Home.” In Tomasz Grzybowski’s interpretation, these pieces – originally written for a jazz trio or a larger ensemble – gain a new dimension full of subtlety, space, and personal expression.
The title “Midwestern” refers both to Metheny’s roots – the American Midwest – and to the sense of space and melancholy present in his music.
In these interpretations, those elements are filtered through Tomasz’s own sensitivity, creating a coherent and poetic narrative about music, space, and silence.
